I'm sure the caption caught you off guard. And Honestly I was gonna say "boobies are bad" but i figured facebook would instantly flag that so I just needed an attention drawing word that wouldn't land me in FB jail again. Facebook has made significant changes over the past years that directly affect not just the reach of posts but also the ability to advertise. And I for one am over it...
I've submitted many ads to Facebook over the years that have been rejected due to 'sexual or suggestive content'. Yet each day I scroll through my Facebook wall and see images from other companies or groups designed to sexualize or dehumanize women & see much more "nasty" content than what I share. I've literally seen Tommy Lees genitals now and could've lived a happy life without that visual. I've seen whole groups about posting nudes and sexual content but yet I can't even hint at a nipple or booty crack without getting everything flagged.
When I started doing boudoir I know my style was super safe I did the typical look at Pinterest and basically copy the ideas I saw on there. But now six years into this I’ve grown to love pushing the limits. The hardest struggle for me is the censorship that is social media. Social media is my number one marketing platform. I’ve tried emails and a few other avenues but when it comes down to it Facebook basically is my livelihood. Between my page, my group and the networking that is social media that’s how I run my business. I've tried other ways but no one really opens emails anymore.
Every time I get a Facebook ban a little part of my soul gets crushed. The challenge then boils down to having to market outside of facebook and other social medias and it’s definitely been a struggle. Having to figure out how I can run my business without social media is basically impossible in this generation of technology. As much as I could wish to be free from it, social media is now how our world works and is prob the cheapest form of marketing for any business of any size.
But when it comes down to it why are boudoir photographers always the ones having to deal with the most censorship. There are countless groups that are way more inappropriate. I’ve seen peoples personal Facebook get shut down years of memories gone because they post something that the Facebook boys deem unfit. Meanwhile we have groups that have whole child pornography available and even much worse.
We are nothing more than a small businesses just trying to thrive in this world. There are ways to help small businesses that deal with this kind of problem. Of course there’s the website and other social media platforms, but we depend on you for word of mouth recommendations. Sharing post commenting on our page just any kind of interaction can make a world of difference on a small business page that has to fight the tyranny that is censorship!
So I’m asking you as a small business owner please help support who are photographers and anyone with a small business, help us beat the censorship and help us fight those who are trying to silence our message!
